On my 1976 model M17, CornDog, I moved the track and traveler back from the companionway about 18 inches. Just enough that my passengers legs would be in front of it. It was a bother to have to reach through their legs to adjust it. That is also still far enough forward that I have no problem crossing over in front of the tiller on tacks. I installed a Harken Small Boat Windward Sheeting Car and love it! Very easy to adjust.. can be done after you finish your tack and have sheeted in the jib. Then you can move to the high side before pulling the track to windward. It also works great for spilling wind in a gust. Just pop the line out of the built in cleat and it drops down to the low side. Dumps the wind without ruining your sail shape like playing your mainsheet does.
