Bob, thanks for the information. I did notice the other cracks, but did not realize the gelcoat was even there, much less a thick gelcoat. I have inspected the exterior of the area and it seems sound, so I will pull the boat to Tucson from ABQ and reinforce the area with fiberglass before continuing to Lake Pleasant. Lenny has given me some pointers on FG work, and I think even I can do the work. Thanks for the offer of materials. I will go to West Marine and get some goodies from them. I think of the time I bought a rudder from you, and you had your guys in the shop do all of the retrofitting of guedgons, etc. You would probably do the same for this item.
