Thanks to Don Haas, who alerted us to the posting, I went to see the M12 in West Salem, OR, listed on Craig's List. I called ahead (503) 559-8800 and spoke with Keith Harris getting easy directions to find his home. This boat is featured in the Photo Site at http://www.msogphotosite.com/M12Haris.html it is just as pretty in person as it appears on the site. While there I also got the opportunity to see his other boat, an Erickson 25 and also saw the line drawings and some of the parts for his new (old) dinghy a Nordic 10? Not sure it it was a ten or eleven footer. Anyway. it will be beautiful: She has a lapstrake hull with a full midsection (looks a little like a Fatty Knees) Two piece wooden mast, single piece ash boom. Leather wrapped oars (done by Keith) and gaff rigged. Keith does not expect the Nordic to sail as fast or as close to the wind as the M12, but it sure will be a handsome craft... very salty. Keith sails mostly in 10 knots or less. Preferring to scape every ounce of energy out of the wind to get hull speed rather than to fight the boat in heavier weather. The M12 has been a great craft for this as she performs hull speed in barely a puff. Keith mentioned once in a Western Oregon lake where he sailed through a group of canoeists at hull speed with them just staring and wondering where the motor was... sure wasn't much wind. Anyway... the point of this post is to let anyone know who may be interested in an M12. This is a decent deal. Keith is not stuck on his $1650.00. He wants that because of the obvious effort he has put into her. I considered her, thought twice about it (due to my bad neck) and decided it best to pass and let you all know what I saw. Go visit with Keith, he has an amazingly beautiful home. Especially if you like things that flower, grow, have to be fed or like the color green in the various shades only a large acreage farm can produce. After you see the M12, make him an offer.
