Well, good, I'll go get some kind of flat nylon winch line. I do have tie downs but I like the idea of tying each side down separately. I did have the boat up and twist once when I hit a bump- it lifted off the keel rollers slightly to the side. After that I was much more careful about tying it down in back! When I took the right rear light off to check it the turn signal started working again, so at least that is cool now. I'm beginning to wish I had just gone for the new trailer! Bobbie
I posted some pics a while ago of the new trailer I got from Pacific. At the time I was concerned about the bunks not being tightened down enough, as one of them had shifted under load. The U bolt that had shifted just broke. It bound up while I was loosening it in order to re-position it and finally snapped as I continued to crank on it. There's a picture of it in the attached album. Admittedly I was using a lot of force to turn the nut, but isn't it odd for a bolt to snap like that? I would have expected the threads to go long before the bolt itself. Is this hardware trustworthy? I wouldn't think a guy with a hand wrench should even be able to snap a bolt like that. Norm, It's a new trailer. The bunk shouldn't have shifted. The bolt shouldn't have broken. I would go back to Pacific. If the problem isn't explained by one or more loose bolts, I would be concerned about a design issue. Norm, You big brute! ;-) I agree with Bill......get with Pacific and have them send you a replacement bolt free of charge. I don't know what size bolt that is, but if it is about 3/8 or less, then yes, it wouldn't be TOO hard to twist it off if you are using a fairly long handled wrench. And yes, that is the way they fail when they break; not threads stripping. If you were using a short handled wrench (6-8") the bolt may have been a low-quality fastener. A while back I posted a link to a page that listed torques for various size and grades of bolts, but ask Pacific what it should be torqued to.
