I am looking forward to many fine days on the lakes around my home with her as well as some of the good and needed advice I will recieve from this list. Welcome, Rik! I hope you'll be able to take advantage of her portability to enjoy sailing some waters you wouldn't otherwise be able to get to. Hi Tod, Yes sir, that's the plan. More and easier portability for short day trips or even basic overnighters. We get so busy in the summer that we just can't get much use of a boat that takes an hour to get going and probably an hour and a half to take down again. I bet we can drive past forty lakes on our way to the race track (where we work on weekends in the summer) with out driving ten miles out of our way. It should be easy to stop and take an afternoon with this little darlin'. Besides, the Flicka is living in Kentucky now, so it's no day trip to go see her anymore. :-) She is now our "winter lake cabin" where it is looking more and more like we will be able to spend some serious time in the winters in the future. During those times, the M-15 will hibernate in my Dad's shed, till we come back north. Rik On Wed, Apr 07 2004 06:04 pm, htmills@bright.net wrote:

Rik, Congratulations on your "new" Monty "Just Little"! I'm rather partial to the 1981s. Stan Winarski M-15, # 177 (1981) Carol II
Thanks Stan, Do you know; is there much difference between the 81 and a newer boat. Any desireable upgrades?? I'm debating hard right now between updating the motor mount to that nice Garhauer unit and using the 4 hp 2 stroke I got with her, or sticking with the mount thats on "Just Little" and getting about a 50# thrust Minn-Kota electric. Hello Craig, Well......who'd a thought I was going to stumble onto one of these within 30 miles of my house :-) ??? When we bought the Flicka, last winter, we knew we were going to have to keep her in bigger water. We didn't yet know though that, that water would end up being in Kentucky. We have a Fatty Knees with a sailing rig too, but, although she seems to be quite an able sailer, she isn't quite big enough for two to spend much time on. Our first boat was a Rhodes 22, which we really liked. She was kind of half way between our Flicka and the M-15. Not quite big enough to do a long term live-aboard thing, but a bit too big to use for quick day trips. Then one day I was just surfing around Yachtworld.com and I stumbled across this Flicka out in Seattle. Well, long story short, 10 days later we owned her. We had actually planned to keep the R 22, but somebody asked me what I wanted for her and I gave them a price. Again, who'd a thought, they took it. Ooops, no boat to use close to the house any more!!! So that got me started looking again for something a little smaller and a little less expensive. Then somebody else stumbled onto this Monty within a half hour of my house and asked me to go look at it for him. I went and looked and found It would probably be considered a bit of a project to get her looking nice, but was sailable the way she sat. Not really wanting a project, he wasn't interested. I ended up with her instead. He ended up buying a boat in better shape, also an 81, about 30 miles from his house. Funny how things work out sometimes. :-) Rik On Wed, Apr 07 2004 08:30 pm, Stanley Winarski wrote:

Rik The only difference I've noted are that newer versions seem to have double reefing in the main and a reef in the jib and some have stern rails - Bob Egg could give you a better answer. I replaced the original motor mount with an adjustable mount. It was a struggle getting under the seats to secure the hardware. There are several notes on different ways to do that in the archives. Since I now usually sail on the Chesapeake and having once been caught in an outgoing tide on a windless evening I like having a little more "get home" reserve. I've got a 3.5 Nissan that moves Carol II very comfortably under most sea and wind conditions. Stan
