Hi Jesse, Glad to hear that things are going well and you are eagerly anticipating your first sail. It takes a trip or two to get things sorted out, but as a former big boat sailor, you know that the pointy end is called the bow; the blunt end is called the stern, and you know about things like shrouds and sheets. I use lighter fluid to get the goo off the hull; I've also tried acetone. Usually lighter fluid and some time works. Another product that you might want to try is called "GOO GONE", which promises miracles, etc. Connie
Connie, Jesse, If I can add a line or two (1.5 cents)?? Connie's right about Goo Gone, we use it faithfully. We also use 'Goof Off'' for more challenging jobs (be careful, it'll mar/eat some plastics-test carefully), and another called 'Oops' that we get at Ace Hardware - which will remove dried latex paint - but is less agressive than 'Goof Off' (kinda in between). I guess they're all 'glorified' lighter fluid. Regarding the goo, you might try mineral spirits. Acetone is a little on the hot side, as a solvent, and most probably will eat into the sheen of the finish. Now that you've moved into the Montgomery family, why not make it to the CBC 2003? CBC stands for Chesapeake Bay Cruise, formerly known as the Chesapeake Bay Rendezvous or CBR. This year it's taking place in the mid-section of the Bay. You can read about the 2001 edition on the MSOG page: http://msog.org/rendezvous/rendezvous.cfm A good time for sure! Tod (who's BuscaBrisas is sporting spiffy new lettering on her transom)
Tod, Where did you get your lettering. I plan to chrisen my boat with "Carolyn J" soon. I got it from a booth at the Annapolis Sailboat Show last fall. Any of the sailing magazines will list some, I'd guess, and there may well be a sign company you could go to locally. The nice thing about doing it in person is that you can be sure of what it looks like (you can preview it on the computer monitor). I think it cost about $30-$35 for both the name and hailing port. Tod
I've just put up a CBC 2003 page. Doug Kelch should probably look it over for accuracy tomorrow sometime (although this is the first he's heard of it). Please go to http://msog.org/rendezvous/cbc2003/cbc2003.cfm, or look under menu item Trip Stuff->Rendezvous Plans. Doug - I took the text from the two planning emails you've already sent out. Central cruising area in red is approximate; please let me know if it's close enough. Doug King At 08:00 PM 5/5/03 -0400, you wrote:

Jesse, Here's the "latest" message from Doug Kelch, the tour planner, guide, program director, and followed leader for the CBC 2003. Hope you can make it for some or all. Stan Winarski M-15, # 177, Carol II Well here we putting plans in place to make fond memories for 2004 and beyond. The Chesapeake Cruises with other small boat enthusiasts are some of the best memories I have of sailing the Bay. I thoroughly enjoy cruising the nooks and crannies by myself but the extra pleasure of enjoying the company of like minded people has been a pleasant surprise. For those of you have cruised in company before you understand the differences. Those of you who haven't should do yourselves a favor and give it a try. These cruises are unstructured, some would even say unorganized, but this provides a pressure free environment to retain your independence yet share the the experience of cruising in company. We have a rough itinerary for the week but go where the weather suggests on a daily basis (we go where and when the wind blow with moderation). The cruise officially starts on Saturday at noon so we hope everyone can get launched and sorted out by then and meet at a local restaurant to swap stories and plan the next day's destination. Some people stay a couple of days, some stay for the whole week. This year it looks like we have another good turnout in the works. I would appreciate a response from everyone on the email list as to your intentions so that we can checkout the accommodations (launch ramps, parking, etc)before hand. The current list is as follows: Chesapeake Bay Cruise 2003 June 7th through June 14th Attendees: Doug Kelch M15 – “Seas the Day” for first 4 days Bill Riker M15 – “Storm Petrel” full week Stan and Carol Winarski - M15 “Carol II”- full week?
