Does anyone know of any special cleaners that will remove the film from the hull of my boat. My boat was nice and clean when the season started, but now after I have sailed in the Baltimore Harbor a few times my boat has a brownish film along the water line. I have tried to clean it, but nothing seems to help. I have tried power washing, Simply Green, Acetone, Componding, Black Steak Remover & CLR. Is there something I'm missing?? I'm beginning to think my only solution is to wet sand the hull. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. skip: is what you are describing like a stain? if yes it seems as if the gel coat has takin' a likin' to something in the bay. i run into such things in puget sound (not a place that cycles water well ... part of the reason all of the chemicals folks toss in the water are killing the sound). i use 3M's 'marine fiberglass cleaner and wax'. it is part rubbing compound (so will take out many a gel coat stain) and wax (one protection against stains and all the other stuff saltwater is doing to the hull). follow the instructions, etc. is always fun to work on the boat in the yard ;-) david scobie M15 #288 (not yet named) wcampion@aol.com wrote: Does anyone know of any special cleaners that will remove the film from the hull of my boat. David, It is definitely a stain. It reminds me of tea stains inside your favorite morning mug. I'll give your suggestions a try later this week. It's tough getting to West Marine on a week night after work.
