I have to jump in with my 2 cents worth here: I use a bungee/line combination around a jamb cleat on the underside of the tiller. I don't think it matters what kind of tiller lock you use, but one with a bit of "give" (bungee) allows the boat to round up a bit in gusty conditions. I find Enfin will sail herself for long periods in a brisk wind when close hauled, with the bungee balancing the tiller nicely and easing off a bit when a gust hits. That's pretty important when you're below with your pants around your ankles !!
