Davits for small dingy M15
Any skippers have davits on M15 for small tender 50# or so Capt Jim Get Outlook for iOS<https://aka.ms/o0ukef>
Jim, I’m only aware of individuals towing a small dinghy or kayak behind an M15. Where do you plan to mount the dinghy? Skip Campion M15-210 1982

Thanks Skip That seems like the way to go. Might even put my 5 gal gas jugs in the dingy. I will do a test run in following sea Jim S -----Original Message----- From: William Campion via montgomery_boats <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Thursday, January 11, 2024 3:56 AM To: For and about Montgomery Sailboats <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Cc: William Campion <wcampion@aol.com> Subject: M_Boats: Re: Davits for small dingy M15 Jim, I’m only aware of individuals towing a small dinghy or kayak behind an M15. Jim. Hanging that much weight plus the additional needed for davits would make the boat squat terribly at the transom sail/motor terribly. There would also be hobby horsing. The M15 hates weight at the transom. Rusty I believe you/ Almost wonder if my 2 40 # gas containers are going to cause problems. I could locate one on the bow as a counter weight. "The real test is at sea" Capt Ron How about towing a small dingy and using a drogue from the dingy in following sea? From the view point of the dingy it doesn’t know it is being towed by a M15 or large sail boat. The performance of the towed dingy has nothing to do with what is towing it. .....right? Jim, I have a curiosity question. Why are you carrying so much gas on an M-15? Skip Campion

The M15 really has its performance hit by weight on the stern... ideally you want to sit all of the way forward, and have the cockpit totally empty behind you. Personally, I usually kept only about 1 gal of spare fuel aboard, and in MSR bottles in the cockpit locker, but if you're on a long trip that causes a conflict between keeping weight down, and storing fuel safely, and not in the cabin. Towing will hurt the performance of the M15 noticeably, and really isn't workable in rough seas, just for totally protected inland areas and lakes. We've talked a lot on here about M15 dinghy options that fit inside of the boat like inflatable kayaks, paddle boards, and folding dinghy designs.
