Hello All, I'm wondering if it's ok to tow bouncing down the road with the outboard mounted to the transom. I have a Sea Gull model 90 wich weighs about 55lbs Jerry, M17 #333 -- JD
Jerry I don't like a motor bouncing and flexing the transom. But, I've seen some people tie them off with a line to keep them from bouncing. Personally, if your going a short distance, it probably won't hurt. For those long trips, I would remove it. Fair winds Bob Jerry Duke wrote:

Hi Jerry, My personal preference is to remove the outboard when trailering. I don't like the idea of all that extra stress on the transom. Jerry, I talked with a guy about a year and a half ago who did some pretty serious (and expensive) damage to his transom by towing his boat with the outboard attached. I would carry it in your trunk/back of pickup, or possibly mounted (substantially) on the winch post of your trailer. Here in California, our highways have deteriorated to 3rd world status, so just the boat on the trailer can be punishing. For this reason, I try to avoid having too much gear in the boat while towing.
