Hey everyone! This is Theo, M23-Sails Increase owner. I just moved to the Philadelphia area and had to leave my baby behind in Minnesota for now. I'm wondering where or if there are Montys out in this time zone. It's my first spring in 15 years without a sailboat to mess around on.... Thanks! Theo, I think you will find several Monty owners here in the east.? I live in Maryland.? I know of several of us in the MD, DC, VA area.? I also believe there are a few owners in NY and NJ.? I only have a M-15 which is considerable smaller then the M-23, but if you are interested in sailing, I'd be willing to work something out.? Let me know. Theo, Welcome to the East Coast. Like Rick, I am located at the Washington Sailing Marina, about 3 hours south of Philly. A number of sailors from the Philadelphia area keep their boats on the Chester River - Langford Bay Marina comes to mind. It is about 2 hrs SE of Philadelphia but is a beautiful, wide, deep river with lots of cruising opportunities and few boats. I try and get up to the Chester river at least once a year as it is one of the prettiest areas on the Chesapeake Bay. When you get your M23 out here I think the M23 population on the east coast will double :-) The other M23 is down on the Potomac River about 20 mi north of the mouth. I look forward to meeting up with you. Hi Theo, there is a whole group of us on the Chesapeake Bay. You are no doubt familiar with Doug Kelch who organizes the Chesapeake cruises and others. My M-17 is in Chesapeake Beach MD at Breezy Point. I cannot claim to know of any M's in Philly itself. But we are only a long reach from Delaware Bay! All the best in your new home. Bob Eeg tells me that our new M-23, "Robin's Nest" is nearing completion. I have a slip at the Port Kinsale marina waiting for it. Kinsale is two hours from our home and the area looks like a great place to sail. Kinsale is near where the Potomac meets the bay. See: http://www.portkinsale.com/ My previous boat was an 8' Phil Bolger "Nymph", so I'm gonna have 3 times the number of sails on this boat! I didn't know anything about Montgomery boats until I saw Rick Davies M-17 at the Washington Sailing Marina. Pretty boat - It hooked me. I've been following the messages on inflatables vs. towed [hard] dinghies. My wife (Robin) and I are still pondering this. We have a 17' Folbot (Greenland II) but haven't given much thought to towing something THAT big. We lean towards towing the "Nymph". Hi Jerry, We had an M15 and used a NYMPH as a dinghy. It made a fine combination. The NYMPH towed very nicely, with very little drag, and when it was calm in the mornings, I would row the NYMPH for an hour or two till the morning breeze set in. Connie ex M15 #400 LEPPO Gerald Wolczanski wrote:

Jerry, Congratulations!!! The Yeocomico river is beautiful and offers a protected sailing area when the winds are up. The southern Potomac is a wonderful cruising area. The M23 "Walkabout" is just up the river about 10 mi in Herring Creek. 4 of us did a one week cruise there last year and if you send me your snail mail address I would send you the video. I tried to sail into Kinsdale Marina in my M15 and consistently ran aground. There are deep boats than mine at the marina so I must have been interpreting the markers wrong. The chart on the marina web site also shows it to be very shallow. We went to a marina at the end of the West Yeocomico at the town of Kinsdale, next to the 203 bridge and it had far more sailboats than the Kinsdale marina. Lots of deep water. I should also make sure you know that the waters between Point Lookout and Smith Point have a reputation of being some of the roughest on the Bay when the wind is out of the SE and tide is running out. The combination is predictable so you should not have a problem. Given all of that you are in a great cruising area for weekends or a month or two wandering the the Northern Neck and Tangier and Smith Islands. Looking foreward to seeing you on the water. And all that is why I've made the 1,000 mile (one way) trip to the Chesapeake three times! The cruising itself is fun, but getting to tag along with Doug, and Tod and Abby and John and Al and Dennis and Stan and Carol and.....well, you get the idea. (Not to mention getting to stop at Steve's house for dinner on the way home. That lady can cook!) On Mar 16, 2009, at 9:02 AM, Doug Kelch wrote:
