Hello Fred, Connie, GO, Joe, Ronnie and Seagull nuts, Wow, a thread has been started! (play on words). The Seagull does look like a fascinating little motor. The torque banter is also intriguing. I have seen some vintage outboard motors at shows here in Minnesota, but, I have never actually seen a Seagull in person. The concept of the motor is great, no frills, overbuilt, easy to service. I must admit, I do have a bit of an issue with old 2-strokes, the oil slick behind boats should really come to an end. I am presently using 4 stroke motors on both of my M-boats. There must be thousands of 2-stroke outboards on fishing boats here in Mn, seeing 16 ft boats with old Johnson and Evinrudes is as common as the pickup trucks on the highway. I used a 1966 Johnson 5hp on my M17 when I first got her. Back to Whitworth. I am more than familiar with this as I own a 1965 Triumph Thunderbird motorcycle which is all Whitworth. I have US, Metric, and Whitworth tools in the tool chest. It's not only the bolt and nut size but the thread pitch as well, (thank you Fred). Why have one standard when we can have multiple! Great posts fellas, keep 'em coming. Bones ____________________________________________________________ Hit it out of the park with a new bat. Bones, When are you going to start posting some pics of the Triumph? My roomate in college had a TT Special. What a beast. He would drive that monster and I would drive my Honda 305 Superhawk. (Mine was much more fun in the watermellon patches!!)
