After 25 years I finally have another M12, my memory of how to rig the mast is a bit foggy, the forestay and shrouds came in a box tangled up like spaghetti. I know the shrouds attach via a bolt thru the mast, but am unsure where the forestay attaches to the mast. The block I'm assuming is for the jib halyard, but haven't a clue on the forestay upper attachment. There are VERY few pics of a rigged M12 on the net. Pics/diagrams anybody? Thanks! ED
Ed- You're correct about the jib halyard block on the 12. That was a long time and many boats ago, but I believe that I used a regular hounds fitting, which had tangs for the shrouds and also for the forestay. If yours doesn't have this, you could pop rivet or screw a halyard strap like the one that holds the halyard block, or a really clean way is to make a slot in the front of the mast and run the forestay thru it and hang it on the bolt, like the M-15's are. Very light, clean, and as far as I know the 15 has never had a failure. Next best thing to t-balls, like we use on the Sage, and a lot cheaper. jerry ----- Original Message ----- From: "edward steenstra" <annamariaslim@yahoo.com> To: <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Wednesday, May 18, 2011 4:14 PM Subject: M_Boats: M12 forestay attachment After 25 years I finally have another M12, my memory of how to rig the mast is a bit foggy, the forestay and shrouds came in a box tangled up like spaghetti. Bboaters: Spyderco and Sage Marine have made it a tradition to provide a key fob shaped like a popular trailerable sailboat at the pocket cruiser events we participate. We have heard little in the form of feedback if key fobs are a popular souvenir for event participants. So … what do people think? Do you like the key fobs? If the fobs are popular what boat model do you suggest for the Cruisers Challenge in late July 2011? Picture link below is of the fobs shared at Lake Havasu 2011, Cruiser Challenge 2010 and Havasu 2010. http://data.sailboatowners.com/photos/1306209239.jpg :: Dave Scobie :: M17 #375 – SWEET PEA – www.m17-375.webs.com :: Sage Marine – www.sagemarine.com/
