Does anybody have any experience with towing a M17 with a 1993 ish Toyota 4x4, manual transmission. Gross combined weight is 7800 lbs ( vehicle weights about 4,200 lbs ) which would probably give me an extra 500 - 600 lbs reserve capacity according to the owners manual. However I was looking for real world experience. Not interested in going fast up hill; just looking to make it.
Scott, What engine do you have? I tow my M-17 with a 2000 Toyota V-6 Automatic Trany with little problem except fpr hills that slow me considerably. Arnold On Apr 9, 2009, at 5:41 PM, Live File wrote:

I towed my M17 all over western Oregon with a 1994 Toyota 4x4 p/u with the V-6. My trailer had brakes which I really appreciated. Climbing the steeper hills slowed me down quite a bit, but I was never uncomfortable with the boat in tow. Hello Scott and a Blessed Easter to all, I towed my M-17, Seaweeble, for years with a 1986 Toyota 4Runner 4 cylinder. That 4Runner has a manual transmission. I never got anyplace fast but I got there at highway speeds (about 60mph) on the flats. I still have the 4Runner and it has 280000 miles on it and is no worse for the wear. I never got up hills very quickly but I got up tall ones in 2nd gear at worst (about 30mph). I now use a 2004 4Runner with a 6 cylinder automatic and have no problems at all. By the way, stay out of 5th gear and/or overdrive as per the manufacturers recommendation. Good sailing, Ian M-17 The mighty "Seaweeble"
