If tuned properly, weather helm. I think the MSOG has a section on this written my Jerry, and there have been similar references by others. I recently discovered that my spinnaker halyard was in the bottom (wrong) hole on the masthead, and swapping that position with the forestay gained me about an inch of forestay length, which lets me rake the mast back more. I was maxed out on my turnbuckle and couldn't go farther. Now I know why. With only a few degrees to work with, an inch makes a lot of difference. Howard

I think you'll find weather or lee helm conditions are in direct correlation to mast rake which is a adjustable feature, push it foward & you get more lee helm, pull it back results in weather helm. It's a function of unbalanced forces acting between your keel and your sails pivoting your boat around it's central axis. similar to a weather vane. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Honshells" <chonshell@ia4u.net> To: <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Tuesday, April 23, 2002 9:52 PM Subject: M_Boats: M17 Performance
