We were kinda disapointed to see that we were the only stock M17 that signed up for this year's event. The CC is great fun and I hope next year more stock monty 17 driviers will return to the event. It is a great gathering of friends and a fantastic time on the water and off. Congrats to Dan Phy and Dave Bacon for a first place finish in the small boat fleet aboard Dan's well traveled and beautiful "Six".....and to Paul Bear and Stan Susman aboard the highly modified M17 "Paintboy". They were moved into the big boat fleet due to "Paintboy's" incredible speed and track record, and still took home a 1st place. It was great fun getting ol #44 back on the water again. Big thanks to Bob at Montgomery Boats for helping me make it happen. You may remember that about 3 months ago, 44's keel looked like the photo on the bottom. I had just enough time to get her together, standing the rig for the first time the day before we left for Monterey, and Larry and I floated her/tuned her/sailed her for the first time on Monterey Bay Friday afternoon before the Sat race. She's was as stock as they come, even still sporting wire/rope halyards with no winches. She's still got a long way to go , but just getting her out sailing was a huge milestone in her recovery. Hopefully next year she'll be looking a little better. Of course I also gotta thank my bud and Co-skipper Larry, who drove all the way down from Washington to partake in the shenanigans. So...if you have an Mboat "stocker" and want to come have a great time at an absolutely fantastic and beautiful sailing venue in July....consider going to the Monterey Cruiser Challenge. It's a great time. A few pics of the fun.... (photos shared by Don Person and Neil Dorf...Thanks guys) (although she is hull #44, we had Larry's main from Corndog flying showing #200, along with two new headsails from Harry at Elliot/Pattison) http://forum.trailersailor.com/post.php?id=1387943
