I changed the clam cleats to cam cleats on my boat. I didn't want to drill more holes, so I mounted the new cleats on a 1/2" thick piece of plastic and then mounted the plastic mount to the boat using the existing holes and screws. I used a piece of plastic cutting board, the same as I used to build a shim for the hatch that I installed in the foredeck. Mounting the cleats this way is a smart idea and has worked out well, but I can't take credit for the idea. I lifted it from Doug Kelch who did the same to his boat. I'm sure I have a picture of this setup somewhere. I plan to put it on my website soon, but software development is very slow during boating season.
