Hi I just bought my first monty 15 a 1985 hull # 321 and after cleaning out all the old stuff in the port seat locker I found cracks . They are where the plywood bulkheads and the hull meet , what I'm trying to figure out is .Is this some kind leveling compound or seam filler , and if so what do I repair it with Thanks KLaas
The plywood is bonded to the hull with fiberglass mat and cloth, themn painted over with gelcoat. The gelcoat is much more brittle than the glass, and if the crack only goes thru the gelcoat I wouldn't worry about umnless I was really picky. If the actual bond is broken, I'd try to figure out why. Could it have bounced crooked on the trailer? Is there a way that water could have gotten to the wood and swelled it, breaking the bond? If you need to fix it, use several layers of glass cloth, not mat, and epoxy resin, which will stick to old glass much better than polyester. jerry ----- Original Message ----- From: "Klaas" <santaklaas@telus.net> To: "Montgomery boats groups" <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Monday, October 17, 2011 9:09 AM Subject: M_Boats: Cracks in locker
