Hi Tod, I'm not getting totally out of sailing, just another prudent (or imprudent?) down sizing to match physical capability and new realities. Yes, I'll still be lurking in the shadows and supplying my comments if needed. You're much too interesting a group of sailors to just depart. Where would I get the Larry jokes? ...or Rachel's smiley or frowns? We've been married for a most pleasant time, and it will continue that way. Replacing the M15 will be a smaller and simpler, Joel White designed Shellback dinghy. It has a dipping lug sail on a free standing short mast, and a centerboard. I hope that I will be able to drop it in the water very easily, and go rowing or sailing at a moment's whim depending on weather and wind conditions. If you want a look at the Shellback go to Google; Enter: "Shellback dinghy trailer" When it comes up, then go to the 3rd item: "The Ride by Steve Clancy, TSCA Puget Sound" click on this and Shellback dinghy "Ruckus" at '99 Mystic Seaport Small Craft weekend opens. This is now LEPPO II. Connie
Great, Connie I'm a bit familiar with the shellback from the ads for the kit in Woodenboat. Pretty little dinghy! Tod
forgive me Connie and Tod, but I am anxious to communicate with fellow Montogomery owners. Last month I bought a Montgomery 15, number 249, and am trying to learn to sail it (with much difficulty of course). I live in Western Michigan and think these boats are pretty cool, although not very common around here. Are there any visual aids available on the net as far as running rigging go? How about rope size recommendations? Hope to hear from someone soon..Thanks Rick from Fremont ----- Original Message ----- From: <htmills@bright.net> To: "'For and about Montgomery Sailboats'" <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Thursday, July 21, 2005 3:50 PM Subject: RE: M_Boats:

Rick, I'll bow out on your questions as I'm a 17 owner and there are plenty of 15 owners on the list (such as Connie, for one) who are much more qualified to answer your questions if they aren't all out sailing! Congrats on the new boat; I've sailed on them a couple of times and they are great sailers! I sail my M17 on Muskegon Lake/Lake Michigan, Rick ... I keep mine at Fisherman's Landing near the powerplant near North Muskegon with her mast up ... You're welcome to rendezvous w/me sometime and take a look ... I live in Charlotte, but work in Grand Rapids near the GR Ford Int'l Airport, and sail West Michigan. Where did you find your 15'? --Craig F. Hi Craig, thanks for responding. Actually I work in Muskegon, right on the lake at Torresens. How do you like your 17, how long have you had it? I am just learning how to sail and every time seems to be an adventure of some sort. Today is my day off and of course it is real windy and blowing straight in off Fremont Lake, making it very difficult for an amateur to enjoy a day of sailing, Have a great day! Looking forward to hearing more about the Shellback, Leppo II, Connie ... Studied an immaculately built one at a West Michigan boat show recently and was very impressed ... ----- Original Message ----- From: chbenneck@juno.com To: montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com Sent: Thursday, July 21, 2005 3:59 PM Subject: Re: M_Boats: Hi Tod, I'm not getting totally out of sailing, just another prudent (or imprudent?) down sizing to match physical capability and new realities.
