I'm planning on a two week North Channel Cruise in mid June. I'll probably drive from Ohio to Tobermory, take the Chi-Cheemaun ferry over to South Baymouth (Manitoulin Island), and then drive to Little Current (Manitoulin Island) on Saturday June 5th. I might end up taking the ferry on the morning of the 6th depending on how late I hit the road. At the present time I'm thinking of making a general counter clockwise spin around the North Channel, launching at Spider Bay Marina in Little Current and going north and then west to the Bustard Islands and west and then crossing south to the west end of Manitoulin and returning east again. Of course, all plans are subject to the weather and whims of the person at the helm! Mid June will probably be a bit ahead of the crowd and still kinda nippy. There is some info on the area at: http://www.continuouswave.com/north-channel/ and here: http://www.continuouswave.com/sail-logs/ If anyone else is planning on a trip up there, perhaps we can meet up! correction: Benjamin Islands, not Bustard. The Bustards are in another area.... I'd be interested in joining you for one of those weeks, Tod . . . I doubt it will happen, b/c I'm already semi-committed to cruising Canada's Lake Nippigon sometime this summer . . . I'd like keep up with the specifics of your trip, however, b/c the North Channel is another "must do" destination . . . Thanks! --Craig p.s., Does anyone on the list know about rules for sewage disposal on boats in Canada? I've heard (on this list?) that boats without self-contained systems aren't allowed in, and that porta-potties are verboten . . . But I've also heard this rule is either a myth, or is barely enforced . . . Anyone? ----- Original Message ----- From: <htmills@bright.net> To: <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Saturday, March 06, 2004 11:53 PM Subject: North Channel Cruise I'm planning on a two week North Channel Cruise in mid June. "In Ontario and other parts of Canada, especially inland waterways, all boats fitted with a marine toilet must also be fitted with a holding tank. This tank stores raw sewage, ("black water"), until it can be properly disposed of at a pump-out station. "Dual" systems, with Y-valves allowing toilet waste to dump overboard, are illegal in Ontario and some other areas. These valves either must be removed, or locked in a position that allows raw sewage to enter the holding tank only. Portable toilets are legal only if they are well fastened to the boat, and have a permanent fixture enabling them to be emptied at a pump-out station." It has been my experience that they do allow US boaters in with ordinary porta pots even when aware of the arrangement. Tod

Okay, Doug! BTW, that post I wrote that you replied to: It sounds like something I wrote before my last trip there three years ago. Is that correct? Only one person besides myself admitted to being confused. And it doesn't count if I'm confused because that's my normal state anyway. *grin*
should I post a correction/withdrawl?
Only if you really really really want to. *grin* *********************************************************** Since it appears that everyone is rearing to make plans, I'll get it in gear and start discussion off the Montgomery list (except for the occasional update so that if anyone, such as Larry, is interested....)
