Pop up truck camper recommendations
I am thinking of changing by towing rig to a 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton 6 ft bed pickup truck. I am getting wanderlust and would like to tow the M15 around the country and would like to pick up a low profile, light weight, pop up camper. Would any of you have any recommendations on a pop up truck camper/ Thanks Doug Kelch M15 G #310 "Seas the Day"
the camper for my ranger is basic 'Roamin’ Chariot' ... very light-weight and basic ... and just what i need: bed, lights, and keeps me dry - http://www.roaminchariotind.com/ (the above _was_ the www-site link, but the company may be no more due to the economy) you can see a picture here - http://m17-375.webs.com/apps/blog/show/1231551-returned-home-wish-i-was-sail... the top pops up like a VW westfalia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Westfalia_Campers; see picture titled '2000 vw camper) if i ever 'upgrade' i've always liked the look of four wheel campers - http://www.fourwheelcampers.com/ dave scobie M17 #375 - SWEET PEA visit SWEET PEA's www-site - http://www.m17-375.webs.com --- On Thu, 4/15/10, Doug Kelch <doug_kelch@yahoo.com> wrote: I am thinking of changing by towing rig to a 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton 6 ft bed pickup truck. You might also look at www.fourwheelcampers.com. I live in a camping area, and I see a lot of them Tom Jenkins On Apr 15, 2010, at 5:33 PM, W David Scobie wrote:

Doug, Prior to my full size truck and Lance camper (which we have had for 20 years) we had a Toyota 4x4 with a Four Wheel Pop Up camper. The company was in Colorado but sold the camper line to an outfit in Sacramento California. If you get on their web site you can locate a dealer near you. We absolutely loved that camper and are even considering replacing the Lance with one. My Toyota was the last year before fuel injection and I also had large wheels and tires so it was a real slug, but it sure looked hot. Four Wheel makes models for a different size trucks and truck beds and what I like most about them is when the top is up it is nice and tight all the way around which looks better and handles wind better than some of the others. Good luck and let us know what you end up with. When I've towed "Audasea" long distances.......such as the 1,000 miles to the east coast, I use the boat for my camper. Pull into a Walmart parking lot, look for the fleet of RV's camped on the outer edge of the lot and hide out in the crowd. It doesn't sleep as well on asphalt as it does on the water, but it works. Currently towing with an older style Toyota Tundra. I still have the 3/4 ton Suburban "Big Iron" I'll sell you, but it's overkill.
