Hi Ron Dawson, My M15 is an 81 model and also came with the fixed motor mount. I have modified the fixed motor mount to accommodate a lift-up motor mount as follows: The mounting board on the original fixed motor mount was sawed off, leaving the two fiberglass side pieces still attached to the stern. Then a piece of hardwood, at least 1.75 inches thick is fitted between the original side pieces with bolts and the lift-up motor mount is bolted to the wood. This works extremely well and allows for easy adjustment of the height of the lift-up motor mount. I originally had a 3hp 2-stroke outboard (25 lbs) and found it to be inadequate in high wind situations. Note that a lift-up motor mount for a 25lb motor does not necessarily require any counter-balancing springs to help lift the motor out of the water. I recently moved up to a 5hp Tohatsu 4-stroke (55 lbs) and hope it will perform better. For this heavier motor, and my sore back, the lift-up motor mount really needs counter-balancing springs. The Fulton Model 1710 is perfect for a 55lb motor. Note that the Tohatsu 4,5, and 6hp 4-stroke outboards are identical to the Nissan and Mercury models. A good starting web site for Tohatsu outboards, is http://www.onlineoutboards.com. Wendell Spence M15, #191 Catawampus
