Hey Todd, I finally got around to copying your idea for the "La Z Boy. I had some surplus high density shipping foam from work. I took the electric knife out to the boat and cut it to size and the basic contour of the floor. The preliminary fit was great and it really made spending a night, sitting in the berth very comfortable. Now that the experiment worked, I will upholster it when I redo the rest of the cushions. Thanks for the idea. I hope I don't owe you any royalties?? I see in several pictures of Busca Brisas on your web site what looks like a bow roller. Do you have any pictures specifically of the bow and how it fits together? Steve Shenkel <>< _/) M17 # 263 Glendale, AZ
Halloo, Steve Glad you like the La Z Boy idea. I stole the idea from Sam L Morse, something that used to be on their web page before they recently re-worked it. Oh, yes, the roller. I have since removed it and am at a loss as to what to do with it. It actually has dual rollers, "just like the big boats". It is in good shape except that the varnish is peeling badly. Here are some pictures of it. It was made by a former owner, Rod Johnson, who made some other improvements to the boat that I'm still using (the galley pull-out drawer, the fold-down door, and the coaming shelf). If you will recall, he's the fellow who took her from Port Angeles, WA up to Bella Coola, BC and back. It is made of laminated strips of mahogany (with a bit of camber built in to match the deck). The existing stem fitting was unbolted and mounted atop the sprit with longer thru-bolts. There were two nice Herreshoff (sp?) cleats on it but I'm still using them. The thing is about stout enough to pick up the front half of the boat at least (I know because I about did it trying to pull it off from it's bedding compound!) For reference, the floor tiles in the pictures are 6" square. www.todspages.net/images/LF-BuscaBowRoller01.jpg www.todspages.net/images/LF-BuscaBowRoller02.jpg www.todspages.net/images/LF-BuscaBowRoller03.jpg www.todspages.net/images/LF-BuscaBowRoller04.jpg www.todspages.net/images/LF-BuscaBowRoller05.jpg www.todspages.net/images/LF-BuscaBowRoller06.jpg I'm not using it just because I'm keeping Busca's main anchor in a milk crate under the cockpit and lowering it from the cockpit then walking it forward. Hey Tod, Thanks for the pictures. I see what you mean. That was probably a job to get that roller platform off the bow. On my previous boats I have fitted a bow roller to facilitate anchor retrieval. I thought I might want one for the M17, but I have found paying out the anchor line from the cockpit quite convenient. The only problem has been retrieving the anchor without scraping the sides on the vertical pull. Perhaps a stern roller of sorts might be in order. Any thoughts..
