I am open for suggestions on where to obtain a hatch for a Montgomery 17. A very good friend and fellow Montgomery 17 renovator has had his main companionway hatch stolen. His boat dates from around 1974. I am not sure what use it could be to anyone else. We searched the vacant lots around his work area thinking some prankster was having a creative moment but to no avail. Any information would be appreciated. Fair winds, Tom B, Mont. 17 #258, 77'
Tom, I ran across an old Monty that is being used as a lawn ornament. If you'd like I can make contact with the owner and see if they'd be interested in selling the hatch. Here is a pic of the hatch. The boat was built in 1973. ~Skip~

Hi Skip, Have you had a chance yet to visit that restaurant about the main hatch on the Mont. 17? I called my friend here about your email and he was just about to start his second attempt at building that hatch and he agreed to hold off on his efforts pending information on what you find out. With his budget he will not be able to afford that fellow here in Texas for a really good hatch. Thank you, again, for your efforts. Hi Skip, Just talked with Ken. It won't be necessary for you to go across town to find out about the hatch. He has all the wood cut for the hatch and will go with that. Some medical insurance coverage news he received yesterday is dictating what he has for discretionary income now. Thank you again for your help. Tom: Unless the original molds still exist (I doubt it), your friend would seem to have two choices (other than scavenging one from a derelict boat).......that would be to "splash" a new mold off an existing hatch cover, or building a replica from plywood. Assuming a guy could get someone to share the exact specs, he could do a decent job of it with 1/4" or even 3/16" marine plywood. If forced to make the choice, for a "one of", I'd opt for making one from plywood. On Dec 7, 2014, at 5:58 AM, Thomas Buzzi wrote:
