Mark, that sounds like a magical sail indeed. Thanks for sharing the story. What river are you referring to? You and Roberta are up in Oregon, right? Sailing out of Newport? With a forecast of winds at 10-15 and a high of about 90 (actually not too bad for an August day in the Sacramento area), at nearby Folsom Lake, Becky and I decided this morning to take our M15 TwoCan out for a day sail. It turned out be be a nice day with a little less wind than we had hoped for but still a great time spent on the water together. best, -Neil Dorf '85 M15 TwoCan Northern California
CB pendent replaced and back in the lake. Used my friends' barn beams and a chain hoist and a chain fall (motor lifter ) to lift the stern off the trailer. Even have a stopper pin now. I expect better performance now with a properly rigged CB. Thanks for the help. Doug Vogel Tie Line
We sail out of Winchester Bay (the locals call it Windy Bay) at the mouth of the Umpqua River (near Reedsport Oregon). The Umpqua River bar has a nasty and well deserved reputation but if you pick your days well it is benign enough. Maybe it can best be described as a temperamental bar. The USCG maintains a watch in a tower near the mouth of the river and they will often close the bar to various classes of vessels. It's nice to have them keeping watch there but conditions can change quickly and a person won't last long if they wind up in the water. I'm very cautious about when I go out and have a strict rule that no children can go over the bar with me. If children go sailing we stay in the river. -----Original Message----- From: montgomery_boats-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:montgomery_boats-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of ndorf@surfbest.net Sent: Sunday, August 14, 2011 5:50 PM To: montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com Subject: Re: M_Boats: whales!
