Re: M_Boats: Super deal on Raymarine stuff
Hi Nick, Yep, I got your drift. So far, my Navman instruments have been flawless. One of the reasons I picked that product was that the depth and speed displays would fit right into the 4" holes I had in the M23 bulkhead. No drilling was required. The transducers were another story. Keep up that search for an M17! Hi Joe, Myself and a couple other M-owners use fish finders for dept sounders. The trick with the fish finder is how, and where, best to mount the transducer without putting a hole in the hull! They work good for depth readings, are easy on the battery, and can give you a glimpse of what the bottom is made of (mud, rock, stumps, etc) when anchoring. Some units also show battery voltage, water temp, fish, and have alarms for shallow or deep water. Of the group I had the most difficulty in finding a good place to mount the transducer, and wound up putting mine in the hallow cavity at the backend of the keel, and submerged in a few inches of water. Other have used silicone and mounted the transducer right to the hull with good success. Thanks for the advice, Randy. I had toyed with the idea of using a fish finder. They certainly are a lot less expensive than traditional depth sounders and you get to find some fish!!
