Running rigging diameter
Whew!!! Made it the 500 miles from Mobile, AL back to our home in Sugar Land, TX a few minutes ago. I was concerned about a trailer of this age, but I had new tires, wheel bearings, racers, rollers, lights, and u bolts put on, so the only things I was really concerned about were the springs and in the deep corners of my mind, the old rims I had the tire store reuse. Now if I just didn't jinx myself, since I'll trek the last 100 miles up to Lake Livingston with it tomorrow. Questions for you fine folks. I'm going to replace the running rigging, and my measurments tell me 1/4"? That seems awfully small even for a 17 foot boat, but honestly, I haven't been on a 17 ft boat in a long time. I wonder if it was maybe 3/8" and is just worn and compacted. It really should be replaced, so some guidance on the size for the jib and main halyards would be appreciated. You are correct. 1/4 is too small for halyards, although it would probably work. Size it according to what runs best in the masthead sheeves. Does it have sheeves grooved for wire? If so, you can go wire to rope just to make you life more complicated... tom Tom & Jane M17 dharma bum
