Montypals: I was imagining away on the photo site, and was looking at "Storm Petrol." One photo shows the boat seemingly planing, as there appears to be a bow wave, but no stern wave. Have many of you experienced this in an M15? Daniel
Maybe it was surfing- a camera has a way of flattening out the waves. I've surfed in a 15 several times with a spinnaker and short but steep wav3es. jerry ----- Original Message ----- From: "Daniel Rich" <danielgrich@gmail.com> To: "For and about Montgomery Sailboats" <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Tuesday, September 07, 2010 7:19 PM Subject: M_Boats: Planing

Well, the caption says that the photo is proof of planing with a displacement hull. Doesn't look like surfing. Daniel On Tuesday, September 7, 2010, jerry <jerry@jerrymontgomery.org> wrote:

Actually, I think I took all those pics of Storm Petrel. The description on the main page suggests (erroneously) that she is planing, but I assure you she isn't. Tod Tod Mills M17 #408, 1987 galley model BuscaBrisas

Seemed unlikely to me too. I have planed in my old FJ, and it is quite the feeling. Daniel On Tuesday, September 7, 2010, <htmills@zoominternet.net> wrote:

Right, Tod, she was not planing. The bow is deep and behind the bow wave. In planing, the bow rises onto the bow wave which moves the wave aft of the bow.
