Hello Jerry,
Welcome to the Montys! You will find that you have definitely got the best of the best with your 23! I used to have a Hunter 31 which I kept at Kinsale. Great Marina. Just hated the drive every weekend. I sold the 31 and now have an M-17 "Pepperjack" which I absolutely love. I live in Fredericksburg and keep my monty in Dahlgren. Look forward to seeing you on the water.

Bob Eeg tells me that our new M-23, "Robin's Nest" is nearing completion. I have a slip at the Port Kinsale marina waiting for it. Kinsale is two hours from our home and the area looks like a great place to sail. Kinsale is near where the Potomac meets the bay. See: http://www.portkinsale.com/
My previous boat was an 8' Phil Bolger "Nymph", so I'm gonna have 3 times the number of sails on this boat!
I didn't know anything about Montgomery boats until I saw Rick Davies M-17 at the Washington Sailing Marina. Pretty boat - It hooked me.
I've been following the messages on inflatables vs. towed [hard] dinghies. My wife (Robin) and I are still pondering this. We have a 17' Folbot (Greenland II) but haven't given much thought to towing something THAT big. We lean towards towing the "Nymph".

I've been checking these out on the link that Howard posted (good ol' Cabela's). They're inexpensive enough that I could invest in one to experiment with, and won't have to apply for a government bail-out if it fails.
Thanks Howard and Bones.

Cabela's has a drift sock they market for fishing boats. We have used one many times on a Lund 16 foot open boat while walleye hunting. It has a circular frame, sock, lanyard, and trip line to spill the water out of the sock. It all packs into a canvas bag. I have no idea how it would work for a M17.

Hello All,
After much research I've decided to buy a new Montgomery 15! I'm grateful to Doug Kelch for putting me in touch with a Monty 15 owner that not only let me see his boat but took me for a sail! Many thanks to Mike Murphy for being so gracious as to take me out sailing on his Monty 15! That in-person experience was pretty convincing that this little sailboat is capable and seaworthy enough for me stop dreaming about being able to afford another Nimble Kodiak and get a boat I can actually afford to enjoy right now. This is pretty exciting for me after not being able to sail since 2002.
This mailing list has been really informative to me and appears to be a great resource for all Monty owners. So far my dealings with Bob Eeg at Montgomery Boats have gone very well in arranging to have my boat built. I'm pleased in that we've come to a purchase agreement that includes some minor customizations with no fuss at all, and that to date Bob has been very responsive to my requests. I'll keep everyone informed as to how things are going and am looking forward to my boat being finished some time in early May - probably delivered to North Carolina by June at the latest.
Thanks to all who responded to my request to see a Monty 15 in person - and again to Mike Murphy for taking me out on his.
Jim

Yeh, the thread is probably, well, threadbare, but I have one last URL:

No beautiful wooden dinghy, this, but perhaps a good sailing tender for that larger M-boat.

Jerry,
Congratulations!!!? The Yeocomico river is beautiful and offers a protected sailing area when the winds are up.? The southern Potomac is a wonderful cruising area.
The M23 "Walkabout" is just up the river about 10 mi in Herring Creek.
4 of us did a one week cruise there last year and if you send me your snail mail address I would send you the video.
I tried to sail into Kinsdale Marina in my M15 and consistently ran aground.? There are deep boats than mine at the marina so I must have been interpreting the markers wrong.? The chart on the marina web site also shows it to be very shallow.
We went to a marina at the end of the West Yeocomico at the town of Kinsdale, next to the 203 bridge and it had far more sailboats than the Kinsdale marina.? Lots of deep water.
I should also make sure you know that the waters between Point Lookout and Smith Point have a reputation of being some of the roughest on the Bay when the wind is out of the SE and tide is running out. The combination is predictable so you should not have a problem.
Given all of that you are in a great cruising area for weekends or a month or two wandering the the Northern Neck and Tangier and Smith Islands.?
Looking foreward to seeing you on the water.

Hey everyone! This is Theo, M23-Sails Increase owner. I just moved to the Philadelphia area and had to leave my baby behind in Minnesota for now. I'm wondering where or if there are Montys out in this time zone. It's my first spring in 15 years without a sailboat to mess around on.... Thanks!
