Harvey, On second thought, I shut off the fuel valve on my HONDA mower at the end of the mowing season, and just let the engine run until it runs the carburetor dry. It's always surprising to see just how long it will run on what's in the carburetor bowl If no air can get in the fuel tank to allow fuel to flow to the carburetor bowl, the same thing happens. The engine will run on the fuel available in the carburetor, but then die.............. Your Seagulls are starting and running on the fuel in the carburetor fuel bowl. When that is used up, they quit. Connie
As we also have 2 hp for one of our toys My small motor expert gave me a tip (he works on Mowers, chain saws and all manner of thing) Just put a few drops of Auto Transmission oil in the gas tank before putting the motor or small motor tool away for the winter. ga ----- Original Message ----- From: <chbenneck@juno.com> To: <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Wednesday, July 14, 2004 11:33 AM Subject: Re: M_Boats: More about the 4-stroke

I've timed the Honda 2hp runout a couple of times, and it takes about 1.5 - 2 minutes to drain the carb. It doesn't seem to matter much whether its idling or running at cruising speed. Man all this talk of motors. I have a 4 hp mariner that I have had since my 22' pearson. I bought it used 5years ago and have done the regular maintenance, I have stripped it and put it back together and was totally comfortable w/ its operations. A couple of weeks ago I was preparing for a haul-out and put the motor on a stand in my backyard. Well I'll be darned if some lowlife SOB stole both my Mariner and a new (to me) johnson 6 seahorse that I had been salivating to try on my M17, from my backyard. I am still livid this has caused a domino effect since I no longer have a motor, I am stalled on my haul-out and I watch longinly at the other boats in the water. Just makes me mad to think of the time, effort, and money you put into something just to have another subhuman take advantage. Pant, pant...... there I vented................So go out and buy transom locks ( had one) and use them!! I got lazy and paid the price... PS Since I am now in need of a new(to me) motor I have been following the threads on 4-stroke and read the comparison on the MSOG site pretty informative. I had called some of the local dealers and found a brand new yamah BF6 2003 model for a little over $1k that seemed pretty inexpensive compared to the Hondas has anyone tried one of these? Gilbert, I am fishing a relative's boat that has an eight horse Yamaha, and I like it much better than the eight horse Honda that I use on my Catalina and fishing boat. Smoother throttle, quieter, with no change in RPM when steering. My Honda will change RPM when tiller steering. I also like the location of the Yamaha shift lever. Very easy to get to.
