Heoo, my name is Tim Erwin, I just joined. I live down at the Texas coast in Rockport. I recently sold my beautiful classic Alberg 30 in Dec. She became too much for me to take good care of. I'm 62 and have MS. I've done a geat deal of research and I have decided to buy a Montomery 17. We have alot of wind and water down here and for their size, they seem to be the best. I single hand most of the time. I have noticed that they are hard to find so I will just keep checking the website. I'm looking forward to hearing what the actual owners are conversing about. Thanks, Tim

I have a 1974 M17 that I am in the process of getting ready to sell. It has the rare cast iron fin keel so, it is much stiffer and weatherly than the keel.cb version but ........ it does draw 39 inches. The boat has fresh barrier coat and anti fouling, new keel bolts and I am getting ready to repaint the topsides in Schooner Green with gold trim. It is on a trailer with a tongue extension for ramp launching. I expect to have her finished in about 3 weeks (weather permitting) and will adertise her on Sailing Texas. For someone with physical limitations, she is a great boat with her full batten main, Jiffy reefing, lazy jacks, all lines run aft and her very stiff sailing characteristics. For someone who can keep a boat at a deep slip and wants to be able to just jump aboard and go sailing it is a good choice. For me, the big problem is draft since I live on a shallow cove on Lake Livingston and during Summer low water, she will be aground at my dock. I love the boat but my wife limits how many boats I can have and if I want a shoal draft boat, Griselda has to go. Whitebeard

Tim, Welcome aboard! Good luck in your search. We have a lot of owners that have done so much to help others with all sorts of Q&A. And a real, real added bonus is that we have Jerry Montgomery (1st builder) and Bob Eeg, current owner/builder of Montgomery boats. Both of whom freely and frequently answer questions.
