Emailing: Paul & Jerry Montgomery on Little Cultus Lake 1950
Thought I’d share this photo that I just got my little hands on- it says 1940 so I was 9 or 10 years old and Paul would have been a year younger.. I’m the good-looking one. It was our first major voyage, and on a log raft. Paul and I still sail, hunt, and fish together, in fact we’re meeting on the N. Umpqua in OR in two weeks to hopefully eat some trout. We’d be doing the Whiskeytown Race but one of the N CA fires last Fall ate the marina. I’ve got another photo showing the raft (and us) upside down!
Well, the photo didn't come thru; it was supposed to be an attachment. Sorry 'bout that. It was of two brats sailing by on a log raft, with a bedsheet for a sail, and spars made of willow. Luckily, Darwin's law didn't catch up with us. A puff capsized us but we managed to right things and drifted on. I'll try again with the photo, but it might be beyond my intellectual abilities. -----Original Message----- From: jerry@jerrymontgomery.org Sent: Tuesday, May 07, 2019 12:14 PM To: 'For and abmontgomery forum Subject: M_Boats: Emailing: Paul & Jerry Montgomery on Little Cultus Lake1950 Thought I’d share this photo that I just got my little hands on- it says 1940 so I was 9 or 10 years old and Paul would have been a year younger.. I'd like to see it. Be nice to see the ancestor and evolution of montgomery boats. Hey Jerry, let me know when you're in town. Maybe I can talk you into a trip out on to the big water while you're here. Mark Dvorscak M23 #74 (with brand new EP sails) On Tue, May 7, 2019, 12:37 <jerry@jerrymontgomery.org> wrote:

Hope you can get the pic posted, sounds priceless. The upside down one too...:-) Great time to come up to that part of Oregon, summer just arriving big time and no fire season smoke yet (I'm in the Rogue valley, just off I-5 about 2 1/2 hours south of where you're going). I'd offer you a ride in my M17 #38 "Pajarita" that you built in 1974...but she's still on the trailer, Howard Prairie lake (main local sailing lake about 35 minutes east) is as yet only 54% full, and the marina is still on the ground at 70%, so we're waiting, and hoping there's still snowpack melting up there... cheers, John On 5/7/19 12:14 PM, jerry@jerrymontgomery.org wrote:

Probably a 4.5. Should have put a bit more beam on her, tho. -----Original Message----- From: Lawrence Winiarski via montgomery_boats Sent: Wednesday, May 08, 2019 5:47 PM To: For and about Montgomery Sailboats Subject: Re: M_Boats: Emailing: Paul & Jerry Montgomery on LittleCultus Lake 1950 Is that a Montgomery 4 or Montgomery 5? You said your brother "still" goes sailing with you. It must have worked well enough for that :-). I'm glad you kept perfecting the design though.....
