Some of you may remember the difficulty I was having last month finding an acceptable bow plate for my early hull #23 M-17. My brother ended up bailing me out by fabricating one along the lines of the original. Check it out in the photos. It is an awesome fit and captures the fiberglass flange very well. This was a big stumbling block for me and I am grateful for his contribution. -Gerry

Wow, nice piece of fabrication! Can double as a battering ram, should you encounter pirates that need some humbling... I am partway done fabbing mast gates for my M17...this makes them seem a relatively simple easy project... :-) cheers, John On 6/15/19 12:31 PM, Gerry Lempicki via montgomery_boats wrote:

I missed it. What happened to the original? None the less, tell your brother he is a top notch craftsman. Ian, I bought the M17 with a broken mast and a modified bow plate. Someone had cut away most of the original, mounted a light there, and then put a chainplate on the top deck a bit aft of the original location. Here is a photo of how I got it. -Gerry

Hi Gary,For several years I have followed the requests and responses for solving problems with Mongomery 15 and 17 boats .Now I have a center board problem on my 2002 Mongomery 15 but cannot access the "help channel". Can you provide me with the e-mail address? My problem with the center board is a broken pull-up line -a squirrel chewed it off !Vern Pidcoe -----Original Message----- From: Gary Oberbeck via montgomery_boats <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> To: ka1stz <ka1stz@yahoo.com>; montgomery_boats <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Mon, Jun 17, 2019 9:08 am Subject: Re: M_Boats: Bow plate update Nice work! ++ GO -----Original Message----- From: Gerry Lempicki via montgomery_boats <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> To: Msog <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Sat, Jun 15, 2019 12:32 pm Subject: M_Boats: Bow plate update Some of you may remember the difficulty I was having last month finding an acceptable bow plate for my early hull #23 M-17. Vern, you got a message out on the list by replying to that last message. I'm sure some much more experienced people will chime in, but we removed our centerboard on our early M-17 over the winter. To replace the pennant, you'll have to lower the centerboard to access the hole/shackle your line was tied to. I've heard people can do it by sliding the boat back on the trailer and digging a hole (depending on the trailer). I put our boat on stands since we were doing a bottom job too. There is a stop pin that the centerboard drops onto; my understanding is that they are faired/sealed over. Mine was missing, with a hole on the port side of the keel. I don't know if there is a preferred direction of removing it. Once that it out, the centerboard is free to drop lower. I'm not sure if that will allow you to get to it or if the pivot bolt has to be pulled too. We had our centerboard out to sandblast and repaint, so I tied the new line on when it was still on the floor. -Gerry
