No, I'd stay with 1/8. One wire of 1/8 would lift up two 17's. 5/32 would just be more weight and windage. Just look for broken strands and cracked or really rusty fittings now and then.

Headstay and uppers were 3/16, and lowers and backstay were 5/32.
