RE: M_Boats: 1981 Montgomery 17 for sale
Friends, A friend forwarded this add to me a few day back when it first appeared on the trailersailor.com web. My wife and I are in the market for a 17 and so I contacted the owner regarding. The owner, Bill Colgan, forwarded to me a number of pictures that I have copied over to http://sailing.gravesfam.us . You'll see a link on the left side of the page for "Trailer Sailor M-17 for Sale". This boat is not going to work out for my wife and I but let me share what I know about his boat. She is a 1981 4 berth model, w/FF2 furler, Mercury 5 hp short-shaft, and Dilly small wheel galvanized trailer. Bill believes she is hull # 334. She is the newer style deck with wet locker. She has an area of fiberglass damage where the centerboard winch mounts on the bridge deck. The starboard locker bottom has been cut out to allow access to the interior. The fixed motor mount has been lowered to accommodate the 5 hp short-shaft. And there is concern that the top layer of the cockpit sole has separated. The description Bill gives is that while solid, it feels like walking on linoleum that has separated from the sub-floor. The interior looks very clean and original. If we where closer and could see the boat we would give it more careful consideration. There are many good chrematistics with this boat as you note in the pictures. Bill is a very nice guy and would be happy to answer any questions you have. His phone number is listed with the add on the trailer sailor classified section. Hi Randy and other M-ers, I checked out the photos just to see the boat; that cushion upholstery sure looked familiar! Same blue-brown lightning pattern as on my former 1981. Actually, for a moment I thought it might be my old one, but mine was #331, I'm pretty sure. I did quite a bit of core work on mine, including part of the cockpit sole. Anyway, it was a trip down memory lane. --- Rachel On Sunday, November 7, 2004, at 01:51 p.m., RandyG wrote:

. . . teak strips on the interior, guarding the handrail thru-hulls and other thru-hulls . . . I notice this '81 doesn't have them, so I'm wondering if my strips were a former owner's add-on . . . I love the center mast-support on this boat, that fits into the tabernackle . . . ----- Original Message ----- From: Rachel To: For and about Montgomery Sailboats Sent: Sunday, November 07, 2004 5:07 PM Subject: 1981 Montgomery 17 for sale Hi Randy and other M-ers, I checked out the photos just to see the boat; that cushion upholstery sure looked familiar!
