Re: M_Boats: Bureaucracy - Be all that you can be!!!
Skip, Watercraft registration varies wildly from state to state - I was told when I was in the boat biz (retail) that there is a national database for H.I.N.'s - hull id numbers - when I finally got around to registering my M-17 in my name the AZG&F bounced it out said they needed to visually inspect the boat and would not issue documentation - I asked the reason and was told there is a boat, M-17 in Texas, with the same HIN and they needed to inspect my boat. Now the good part - I said I can't move the boat, now what - G&F says 'make a paper rubbing of the HIN and bring it in' - I got the trailer rolling and brought the boat to G&F,they did their due diligence inspection and issued the registration paperwork for the second M-17 in the national database with that number! Arizona issues "registration' only - no title as a vehicle - no registration needed under 'X' feet LOA with no motor power but of course they encourage it as a revenue source for the state. Michigan had none needed for canoes etc. - each state to their own devices. BTW- the only part I really miss about not operating a retail sailboat biz and marina is - lots of storage for my toys and Dealer plates for boats and vehicles - $5 a year for plate for boats (not assigned to particular watercraft!) and VERY little $ for dealer plate on truck. Not enuf to make me go back into the biz. Ask the local gendarme to check for the National database for watercraft identification. Everybody needs a job - just think, that person might end up in a position that would have a REAL effect on your life if they weren't where they are. Could be worse - could be better too. Good Luck - Ask for the Governor's assistance ! go M-17 # 316'A' Jerry- if we vote 'em all out we have a gang of rookies that don't even know where the offices are - that is a great idea. Stan - you need another boat - remember though - we ain't the same 'size' we were in the day.
