They're screwed right into0 the fiberglass seats; be sure when you re-install them that you bed the planks in polyurethane. jerry ----- Original Message ----- From: "Becky Belding" <becky@beckybelding.com> To: <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Monday, May 26, 2014 11:02 AM Subject: M_Boats: M7-11 sailing dinghy

Thank you Jerry! Can you also tell me about the floatation foam used on this dinghy? There are some blocks of foam in the bow and stern. If I wanted to add more foam what do you suggest? Becky: pictures attached on where the air tanks are located. from your picture i doubt if the aft tanks will hold air for long (those hatches are never 100% water/air 'proof'). are there similar hatches on the center seat and under the bow? you may want to consider trying to sink the boat in shallow water. this will show if the tanks are still air tight. if they aren't you can consider filling the tanks with expanding foam. -- :: Dave Scobie :: former M15 owner - www.freewebs.com/m15-named-scred :: M17 #375 SWEET PEA - www.m17-375.webs.com On Tue, May 27, 2014 at 10:16 AM, Becky Belding <becky@beckybelding.com>wrote:

Dave, I am (still) in the process of restoring my M-5.8. The seat (Air Tank) used to trim the boat is cracked and takes on water. I had planned to cut a hatch into the air tanks and fill them with "Swim Noodles". I have used expanding foam in the past and after a few years, if water gets to it, it starts to brake down and cause a mess. That's my personal experience, yours may be different. I figured if the noodles become old and loose their buoyancy, I can always replace them a lot easier then trying to excavate expanding foam. I'll try and keep you posted on my progress.
