I have used the Speedtech 'Depthmate' pocket depth sounder (actually made by Hondex) on my M15 for about seven years. It is about the size/appearance of a flashlight (see 2003 West catalog page 123). They rate it for +/- 500 readings per 9V battery. I change the battery once per year, and have never had it go dead. I prefer this over something permanently mounted or with thru-hull.
