Hello All, Am a new M-15 owner, very pleased with my boat built in 1981 and sporting the original sails no.121. Have had a dozen outings in the last month in all weathers. The centre board in some wave conditions seems to knock against the trunk, I think in a lateral motion since the pendant is properly set,. Is this a normal occurrence with the M- 15 ? Also I tend to accumulate water in the deep spot behind the trunk and have to sponge out every few days. Any idea why.? Having owned DS- 16, Siren 17’s and Compac 16’s ,none compares with Jerry Montgomery’s little marvel. Each sailing session is a treat. RTH.
In my experience with the M15 and both old and new generations of M17, the CBs can be noisy, especially running in light wind or sitting at the dock or at anchor with the board down. Reaching they're fairly quiet, but I suppose if it was wild enough, you'd get some knocking about. I'd think a little water in that area would be pretty common, so long as it isn't excessive, although I can't recall that ever happening with my M15. Have you sponged it dry and let the boat sit for a week or so to see if there's an accumulation? t On Mon, Sep 26, 2011 at 6:54 PM, Robert Hall <bert.hall@rogers.com> wrote:

robert: i found that in light-ish wind in a sloppy and confused sea my M15's centerboard would 'cluck' some. i just raised the board an inch or so and it usually quieted down. if your board is making noise when the boat is sailing near hull speed you may have the centerboard over-extended (prior owner may have replaced pendent and placed the stop knot in the incorrect location).
I tend to accumulate water in the deep spot behind the trunk and have to sponge out every few days.
feel around inside the cabin with a dry towel and/or your hand at the connection between the centerboard trunk and the cockpit floor. you are looking for evidence of a faulty/broken connect between the cockpit floor and centerboard trunk (it is through this connected area that the pendent hole is drilled after the boat is decked). if you don't feel any water have someone, while you are 'down there feeling around', throw a number of bucket-fulls of water into the cockpit (be sure the companionway hatchboards are in place). with all that water in the cockpit footwell you can see if there is a dribble of water coming out of the 'joint'. do you notice the water buildup after it rains? my second guess is confirming you don't have a leak coming from another location. for me, on my M15 & M17 and Sage 17, when i cruise i always get a bit of water in the bilge because of condensation inside the boat and especially after i anchor (the anchor and rode 'drying out' release water that flows into the bilge). :: Dave Scobie :: former M15 owner - www.freewebs.com/m15-named-scred :: M17 #375 - SWEET PEA - www.m17-375.webs.com :: Sage Marine - www.sagemarine.com --- On Mon, 9/26/11, Robert Hall <bert.hall@rogers.com> wrote:
