Tod, Thank you so much for your help with the self steering question. This is how I'll set my M15 up, sheet to tiller. Thanks again. Fair winds Bud M15 #500 --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? The all-new My Yahoo! Get yours free!
Bud, The sheet to tiller steering takes a little experimenting so don't give up on it right away. It works fine on my M15. In fact it seems to steer better than I do until the waves get up to about 3 ft. I don't actually use it that often as it requires a good long tack to make it worth the effort. If you have to tack frequently it becomes too much trouble. What I use most often on longer cruises is remote steering. This is just a line running from the tiller, through a block on the cockpit coaming (block with rope tail to a cleat) through a block tied to the mast, through a block on the opposite coaming and back to the tiller. I will often run the line all the way to the bow through a block on each side of the bow rail instead fo the to the mast. This arrangement lets me stand in the cabin and steer while standing up or sitting on the bridge deck. It is very comfortable once you get used to it. There is enough friction in the system that it acts like a loose tiller tamer while you put up the wisker pole or duck into the cabin for a tea. I have even been known to take a cushion up to the bow and lay down againt the cabin and steer from there. It is cheap, effective and lets you stand up and walk around a bit.
