My brother and I took a five-day cruise down the ICW's Great Dismal Swamp Route last week in Vixen. What was to be a summary of the trip unintentionally became a cruising guide. If you're socked in and bored, you can find it on the MSOG site under Trip Stuff -> Trip Accounts. Also have some official sail measurements for the M-17 and M-15 sent in by Jerry Montgomery, under Meet the M-boats. Doug, I was looking forward to reading your report, but Trip Stuff & Yarns menu wouldn't drop down for me. The other menus worked okay. One lousy extra comma--again. I must have been commatose. I tried it and it works OK now. Sorry, Doug At 08:38 PM 5/27/02 -0400, you wrote:

Doug, Reading about your ICW cruise was a real treat. Be sure to post your further adventures in "Vixen" for our armchair-sailing enjoyment. A question: Did you use a digital camera for the pictures in your report? If so, what kind did you use? I am trying to convince my admirable that we should have a new digital camera, but she is reluctant. They are pricey -- and the technology changes every month. Any recommendations or suggestions will be appreciated. Joe Kidd M15 #207 "Poco A Poco"
Joe, Don't let your admirable read this. I used a Wal-Mart buy-1-get-1-free disposable camera with flash for 8 bucks, then scanned them in. I like the cheapos out on the water where they always seem to slide off the seat, get rained on, fall in the porta-potty, whatever. I so rarely take pictures I just can't justify buying a digital. We have one at work we bought three years ago (so it's a classic now) for a project but rarely use it, either. Someone else may have (will have) better information. Joe. Check out Ebay. Be aware that most of the items being sold there are being sold by dealers and the "retails for" prices shown may have been accurate on the first day that item reached the market but is now grossly overstated. I found an Olympus C-2020 Zoom 2.1 Digital on sale by a private owner and have been delighted with it. Brouse through http://www.steves-digicams.com/hardware_reviews.html and http://myconsumerguide.com/ritz_camera.htm to help you sort out what camera might be best for you. 2.1 is a lot more resolution than I need for general photography.
