Re: M_Boats: What an eye opener... (long boat test report)
I'd love to. I have two obstacles: There are lots of rocks in the shallow areas of the lakes I sail, and the Corps of Engineers changes the water level frequently. If you have to hit a rock, a steel centerboard is a good thing to hit it with. Given the sublime beauty of Jerry Montgomery's creation, abusing it with limestone amounts to a criminal offense...although I've been noodling over armoring an M-15 keel with aluminum or steel...comments anyone? The other, much larger obstacle is a severe workload on many fronts. I own and operate a one horse business, I'm finishing a master bath, and I'm in the thick of framing an additional bedroom for my daughters. I came to the sad conclusion that I had neither money nor time to find a new boat this year, to which my wife heartily agrees :( The good news is I do have a boat that possesses many charms, and I will get to sail this year, pursuing that marvelous in between, where the water meets the wind :) Fair winds to all Steve Tyree, P-15 #2098 "Amy Ann" In a message dated 3/11/2004 9:38:27 AM Central Standard Time, Bobeeg@earthlink.net writes: I agree. The Potter record speaks for itself . . . I'm a total Montgomery fanatic, but if you're sailing a boat well-suited to your local conditions, and it's paid for, and you have other priorities, well, then, paint yourself a happy Potter yachter . . . :-) I'm glad you participate in this list . . . ----- Original Message ----- From: <IDCLLC@aol.com> To: <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Thursday, March 11, 2004 7:47 PM Subject: What an eye opener... Sounds like you have a good boat for your purposes, Steve. When I read stories like Anne W.'s month-long North Channel cruise in Peapod, I couldn't care less which small boat she's making the trip in; it just sounds like a grand time.
