On mine I put the hole in the forward face of the centerboard trunk in the cabin just below the companionway. CAUTION: I had to take care to seal the edges of the hole. The cabin hull liner joins the hull in that area, or something like that, so you have a double-hull situation that you might breach, letting water in between the hulls. This would be Bad.
