Measurements for an M17 mainsail cover
Hi, I was wondering if anyone can provide the needed measurements for ordering a mainsail cover for an M17. I want to order one so I have it in time for HPCC but I'm not taking possession of the boat until at least Jan 19th. When going to order on-line they are asking for the following measurements. Thanks, Ron McNeil
I see the picture I attached didn't go through. Here is the URL where they have the required measurements, which I need to get. http://leesailcovers.com/Mainsail_Covers.php?gclid=CKOo04zB0LQCFWaoPAodLjUAd... I would advise being generous in your measurements. I ordered one for my Pearson 23 and ended up getting a cover that fitted like racing gloves and looked like a trussed up sausage George We can not control the Wind But we can adjust our Sails -----Original Message----- From: montgomery_boats-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:montgomery_boats-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Ronald McNeil Sent: Saturday, January 05, 2013 12:40 AM To: Ronald McNeil; For and about Montgomery Sailboats; For and about Montgomery Sailboats Subject: Re: M_Boats: Measurements for an M17 mainsail cover I see the picture I attached didn't go through. Hi, Ron. On The Trailer Sailor Website under the Chandlrey,Tab, there is a source for Pre-Patterned Mainsail covers. Apparently they have the measuremnts on file for a Monty 17. Also, ooffered on the site, is a Clearance section with a limitted selection of covers being sold at a discount. No Montgomery covers listed right now, but one made for an 18 footer I have noticed. Prehaps once a Montty 17 owner responds to your needs for the specs (I have an M-15), you might find the option meets your needs, and ships within 3 days! Best of luck with your new boat. As Martha states there are those that can measure their boat's setup. What year boat are you getting Ron? Jerry's boats through the years, and Bob's all have slight differences ... and for a used boat there have been user modes over the years. :: Dave Scobie :: M17 #375 SWEET PEA - www.m17-375.webs.com --- On Sat, 1/5/13, martha <marthaekwurtzel@aol.com> wrote:

Dave, it's a new boat from Bob. I was just looking at the Trailer Sailor site and see they have the pattern already for the M17. So I think I will go with that unless someone thinks that it would not be a good fit. the two things to confirm from Bob and TrailerSailer - * the mast and main's luff lengths. the sail will be bigger, or smaller, if your boat doesn't have a 'standard' sized mast and/or luff. a bigger, or smaller, sail requires a different bag size. *the boom length *the length of the sail's foot *offset length of the gooseneck * to be really specific bolt rope luff v. slugs. you can roll the sail to smaller size with bolt rope v. slugs :: Dave Scobie :: M17 #375 SWEET PEA - www.m17-375.webs.com --- On Sat, 1/5/13, Ronald McNeil <ronaldwmcneil@yahoo.com> wrote:

most of the mainsail covers i see are made to fit too tightly. Covers should fit very loosely, so the cloth is not tightly creased, and so air can circulate. If you don't have actual measurements, pick a boat with the same P (foot) measurement (or a little longer) , and two or three feet bigger in the P (luff) measurement. The lighter weight the cloth, the smaller the cover can be. Also, closely spaced slugs tend to flake differently, so you can use a smaller cover. For most boats, OEM grade sails (typically of lighter weight, less densely woven dacron) fit into smaller covers.
