Admittedly, I do have enough gear in the cabin to sustain me on an ocean crossing, but even when I place the full weight of my 170 pound torso on the top of the stern wet locker lid, the cockpit still drains slowly. Paul- that wasn't one of the 17's that I made, but maybe I can help figure that out. Since your 17, almost for sure, has an M-15 CB, the drop should be 15", as it was on the 15's that I made. The CB should definately bottom out on the knot and not drop to the point that it bottoms out on the trunk; that's the important thing.
