Hi folks, Does anyone out there have an M17 with a long-shaft Honda 5 hp 4 cycle? If so, I wonder if you have recorded how far you can travel on a gallon of gas. Info on a similar motor from another Mfg might be equivalent. Thanks, Tom Jenkins Scintilla M17
Good question Tom. Spirit has a Mercury 4 hp 4-stroke long-shaft (same as Tohatsu and Nissan) hanging off her stern. I've been wondering how long her 2 gal external tank will push us at about half-throttle. Has anyone figured out the gallons-per-hour for this setup? Do comparable motors made by Honda, Yamaha etc. have similar fuel consumption? Jim M-17 "Spirit" On Apr 10, 2009, at 4:01 PM, Tom Jenkins wrote:

Larry Yake and I had separate estimates that at around 4-4.2 knots, you can get as much as 26 NM/gallon. Fuel economy drops rapidly as you increase speed from there. --Gary Hyde 2005 M17 sailboat #637 'Hydeaway 2' On Apr 10, 2009, at 4:01 PM, Tom Jenkins wrote:

Thanks Gary and Larry. That is actually pretty impressive fuel economy.
