Hi: Has anyone rigged a genoa for a M15? What does it take? My boat doesn’t have the extra hardware for a jig? Peter: For a sail larger than the standard working sail, 128%, genoa tracks need to be attached to the toerails so the sheet runs outside the shrouds. You also need to install a cleats on the cockpit combings. IMO unless you are finding you are sailing in very light wind conditions, like less than 2-3knots, on a regular basis the cost of the sail and required hardware really isn't worth it. If you would like details on specific hardware let me know. The most challenging step is installing the genoa track as this involves drilling through the toerail and hull deck joint while adjusting the track so its bolt pattern doesn't conflict with the toerail's. The installation of the track can be done by a single person but there are a few tricks to doing this as the track must follow the bend of the boat. :: Dave Scobie :: M6'8" #650 :: SV SWALLOW - sv-swallow.com :: former owner M17 #375 SWEET PEA - m17-375.com :: former owner M15 #288 SCRED - www.freewebs.com/m15-named-scred/ On Sat, Jul 11, 2020, 6:35 AM Peter Zimowsky via montgomery_boats < montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> wrote:

I occasionally use a large nylon drifter on my M15 in very light winds, but did not yet do any major modifications to make it work. I just sheet it to the stern dockline cleat, and then run a line from the clew inboard to the regular jib sheet cleat to adjust the effective/virtual block position forwards. Since I also sometimes use a spinnaker, I have also rigged some quick clip on blocks for the stern cleats, along with some clam cleats on the cockpit coamings for adjusting this sheet, however I used to just tie it to the stern cleat before I had that. It doesn't get good sail shape for sailing upwind, but a genoa or drifter is not an upwind sail on an M15, because anything that sheets outside the shrouds won't come in far enough for going to windward. I reccomend using the large sail only for long downwind runs, along with a jib pole. That's only and hour or so away from here, but I'm already booked up that week or I would join you with CornDog. Randy Graves has his M17 there in the Bitter End Marina in Bayview. Maybe you could meet up with him. I don't know if there are any other Monty's there this year. Also, there is usually a M15 in the Windbag Marina up at Sandpoint. Have a great time. I can't even legally move my boat from my driveway until the DMV chaos dies down On Sat, Jul 11, 2020, 11:41 AM Peter Zimowsky via montgomery_boats < montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> wrote:
