Hi all, New M-15 owner here. I notice that rainwater and dew pools between the toe rail and the coaming. Is there a way to prevent this or to help it drain away? Even when the boat and trailer are level, the water can collect here. Thanks, Charlie -- Charlie Fortner Earth, USA, GA, Atlanta M-15 #411
I found that problem also with my M-15. Tilt the trailer tongue slightly lower or downhill, which helps it drain some. But occassionally a towell or sponge is required too. The previous owner of my M-15 cut away toe rail for about 6" at the low point of the rail (both sides) and installed small cleats. These are useful for fenders and allow the rail to drain when boat is level. Chesley Sugg "Mouse"

Ah ha! That's clever. Well that leads into my next question: where do you hang fenders on a non-modified boat? Charlie
if your M15 has hand rails on the cabin top tie fender there ... what i did on my M15. :: Dave Scobie :: former M15 owner - www.freewebs.com/m15-named-sced -------------------------------------------- On Mon, 10/21/13, Charlie Fortner <charlie@rentrof.net> wrote: Date: Monday, October 21, 2013, 11:30 AM Chesley Sugg <csugg@mindspring.com> wrote:

I use the jib cleats or stays in a pinch. I don't have the nice hand rails on the cabin top... On Mon, Oct 21, 2013 at 12:51 PM, W David Scobie <wdscobie@yahoo.com> wrote:

Does anyone need to trade a M15 for an M 17? I have a good reconditioned 17 but would like to have a 15 as I am a capt and crew. louremmers@yahoo.com ________________________________ From: W David Scobie <wdscobie@yahoo.com> To: For and about Montgomery Sailboats <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Monday, October 21, 2013 12:51 PM Subject: Re: M_Boats: Fender hanging? if your M15 has hand rails on the cabin top tie fender there ... what i did on my M15. :: Dave Scobie :: former M15 owner - www.freewebs.com/m15-named-sced -------------------------------------------- On Mon, 10/21/13, Charlie Fortner <charlie@rentrof.net> wrote: Date: Monday, October 21, 2013, 11:30 AM Chesley Sugg <csugg@mindspring.com> wrote:

My solution was more for when the boat is in a slip during the season--I keep the boat in the water for 5-6 months... On Sun, Oct 20, 2013 at 9:11 AM, stevetrapp <stevetrapp@q.com> wrote:

I created drain holes in the toe rails of my M17 to solve this very problem. I created elongated relieve holes about two inches long and half the height of the rail on each side at the low points of the rail. Works well. On Sun, Oct 20, 2013 at 9:03 AM, Charlie Fortner <charlie@rentrof.net>wrote:

On the trailer, tilt forward or back. On the water, Tom's solution would be the best way. Before covering the boat this fall, sniff, sniff :( , I refinished the aft toe rails. The inside face especially needed it. Had to cut down a brush to get in the narrow space. On 2013-10-20, at 12:03 PM, Charlie Fortner <charlie@rentrof.net> wrote:

Oops, if you tilt the trailer aft, the cockpit drain will not drain. The trailer needs to be tilted toward the front. I learned this from experience. A couple of twists on the trailer dolly handle will do it, or one less 2X4 if you're like me and use wood blocks. Charlie: look at your boat's transom when she is on the water and no-one is on the boat. <1/2" of the transom should be in the water. if there is more the boat is not sitting on her lines and she may have too many items (ie, weight) stored aft. :: Dave Scobie :: former M15 owner - www.freewebs.com/m15-named-scred -------------------------------------------- On Sun, 10/20/13, Charlie Fortner <charlie@rentrof.net> wrote: Date: Sunday, October 20, 2013, 10:03 AM Hi all, New M-15 owner here. I just drilled some 1/4" holes in the bottom of the toe rails at the low spots. Any water in the area drains out. Bill "C" Day "Gee Whiz", M-15, 363 On Oct 20, 2013, at 9:03 AM, Charlie Fortner <charlie@rentrof.net> wrote:
