My wife and I are planning to be in the islands the last week of June and the first week of July. Our general plan is to launch in Anacortes then head for the Gulf Islands but we're flexible about route and destinations. We are fairly well locked into the dates though (6/24-7/9/16). I haven't even looked at the currents yet to do any routing but I will in the next couple of months. It would be great to meet up with others if possible. Re weather, I lived in Seattle seven years...the joke that was only half a joke was "no guarantee of summer before July 4th"... :-)
A long-time local cruiser guy I talked with last year at the viewpoint up top of Cypress island said the actual sailing (e.g. consistency of decent wind) was best in spring and fall - later fall that right after labor day he meant of course.
Always some tradeoffs!

I also recommend September for most Puget Sound sailing, fair weather and the kids in their daddy's power boats have gone back to school. There is also a group of M-boat sailors who depart the South Puget Sound in Olympia for an annual sail to the WoodenBoat Festival in September. However June is better for seeing Orcas in the San Juans. Consider going with the Potter Yachters. Last summer they had several Montgomery owners and even Judy B went. A bunch of good people. Bob
