Hi Steve, Gasoline is made from oil, therefore if the container holds oil it will hold gasoline too. I have been using these containers - the same ones - now for three years. They seal well. I've never had any leakage, and I store them in my sail locker. I am also very critical and sniff my cabin and sail locker to check for any fumes which would indicate leakage. While living in Europe and sailing there I was always amused by the European reactions when I told them I had a gasoline engine as an auxiliary in our sailboat The instant response was: What danger, using gasoline! I'd never live with that, .............. and so on. But that same person had a diesel auxiliary and cooked with propane in his boat, with no shutoffs, between stove and propane tank - and no bilge blower! So, it's learning live with the dangers you have on board. ...........and you are absolutely correct. You have to be very careful how you handle the gasoline. But then, I don't smoke, so that is one problem less.... Connie Connie
